WHAT IS A FREEHOLDER?
Freeholders can either be a private individual or company, or a company formed of leaseholders in a building (Resident Management Company) that own freehold properties. They own the land, the ground underneath it and the airspace, as well as any buildings on that land. This land can be used by a freeholder during their lifetime, and they also have the right to pass it on to their heirs without incurring any additional costs.
Sometimes, freeholders can be referred to as landlords as they have ownership of the deed, and become responsible for the management, maintenance, service charges, ground rent, and repair of the building that they own, as well as paying taxes for it.
